Welcome to our new story, Israel Wants a King. We return to the prophet Samuel. He is an older man who has been judging Israel for years. While Samuel was loved by the people, his adult sons were not following in his footsteps. Instead, they turned out much like Eli's sons.
Samuel recognized this fact and was greatly saddened and angered. I positioned Samuel standing in a tower looking down at his sons, catching them in the act of thieving. It is symbolic of Samuel living a righteous life while his sons sank into a criminal lifestyle.
The Israelite's solution to keep the corrupt sons out of power was for Samuel to appoint a king, which we will talk about next week.
